My current job description is “Business Analyst”, and in general, mostly because I am getting too old to be a “developer”, I tend to stick as much as I can to the “Analyst” part.

While most of the following tools are not usually part of my day-to-day job, I found these interesting enough to link a few resources here; if nothing else, I find the approach fascinating.

  • Analysis of Competing Hypotheses (ACH) is a simple analytic process that identifies a complete set of alternative hypotheses and rejects the ones containing too much inconsistent data. The model has been recently implemented as a complete open-source web-application.
  • Google Refine - a PC application that lets you take massive sets of "messy data" and massage them into shape so that they are uniform, make sense, and can be statistically analyzed.
