Bullwhip

[New Weapon]

A whip is a long, plaited strip attached to a handle. When a character uses it to strike a target, determine the success with the melee combat skill.

Rules: Apart from normal attacks (see below for Strength modifiers) a whip can also be used

  • to entangle an opponent up to two meters away. The character uses throwing to make this kind of attack. If it’s successful, the whip wraps about the target. If it’s unsuccessful, the target takes full damage.
  • to disarm opponents (as a throwing called shot: -1D6 to the tthrowing roll to succesfully hit)
  • to swing over pits or other openings. To swing with the whip, the character makes a Difficult throwing roll to catch the whip around a projection overhead that can support her weight. (The gamemaster may include modifiers depending on the conditions.)

Cost: If you want to track money, cost should be 20% higher than a dagger.

Damage: . Bullwhip +1D + MIG/2, rounded down, drop any pips:

Might from 2D to 3D+2 = 1D6+1D6. Might 4D to 5D+2 = 1D6+2D6 and so on.

Rationale: normal melee weapons get a better result with higher might because these work as direct multipliers of the strength. Whips do not transfer the strength of the arm directly, so there is no much different below 4D (where you can probably use a bigger whip).
