The bullwhip is not, per se, a very effective weapon, but a character
proficient in its use may find it quite useful during adventures.
And no Pulp game can be "complete" without catering for the occasional Bullwhip-toting Archeologist...
Characters having the required
skill gain the
abilities listed below. Remember that the attack requires a successful use
of the Whip skill and that this weapon cannot be used at ranges below two meters and over three.
- Normal Attack
- This is a standard attack in which the whip is not aimed to any
specific body part. Note that the actual damage value is fairly low (and
is not related to the AD value of the wielder), so it is of very little
effect.
- Disarm
- This attack is aimed at entangling a specific item hold by the
opponent (-3 modifier). If it is successful, the whip user may try to
disarm the opponent by winning a STR opposed roll.
If the user fails the STR roll, he will lose possession of the whip.
- Entangle
- A successful attack aimed at the arm(s) will immobilize the opponent
if he fails a STR opposed roll.
If the user fails the STR roll, he will lose possession of the whip.
- Trip
- A successful attack aimed at the leg(s) will make the target fall
down, unless he (it) wins a BUI opposed roll.
If the user fails the
STR roll, he will lose possession of the whip.
- Strangle
- A successful attack aimed at the neck will allow the user to start
suffocating the target. Each subsequent turn make a STR opposed roll. If
the target fails, he will suffer MoSx8 damage. Note that the damage is not influenced by the AD value of the user.
If the user fails the STR roll, he will lose possession of the whip.
- Swing
- Attempt a Challenging (5) roll to grab any object/fixture
(situational modifiers may apply). If successful, the user may swing
over a chasm or obstacle (max 3 meters in width) with a Moderate (4) Athletics Roll.
Note that after the whip has successfully entangled its target (i.e.
after a successful Entangle, Disarm, Trip, Strangle or Swing) the user
(or the target) will require two actions to disentangle the whip.
A bullwhip is 4 meters long, weights 3 Kg. and costs around 15$.
